Periodontitis
A disease in which inflammation spreads to the gums and alveolar bone, destroying the tissues that support the teeth.
Commonly known as gum disease, if left untreated the jawbone dissolves, the teeth loosen, and eventually fall out. Scaling and gum treatment prevent its progression.
