Q-ray Diagnosis

Q-RAY FLUORESCENCE CHECK

Q-ray Diagnosis explained

Blue light is shone on the teeth to show, in colour, early decay, plaque and tartar that are hard to see with the eye.

  1. An exam with lightIt uses 405nm blue light, so no radiation is involved.
  2. See it on screen togetherWe look at the images together on the screen in the treatment room.
  3. Compare over timeThe same area can be scanned again at the next check-up to compare changes.

At MEGAPLANT Seodaemun we use the AIOBIO Qscan device.

HOW TO READ

How to read the colours on screen

Healthy teeth and problem areas show up in different colours.

Example fluorescence viewGreenRedDark areas

Green — healthy tooth. It glows green under blue light.

Red — plaque or tartar with many bacteria, or active decay. It shows where the toothbrush is not reaching.

Dark areas — places where weakened enamel suggests early decay (demineralisation).

COMPARE

How it differs from a visual exam and X-ray

Visual examX-rayQ-ray
RadiationNoneA small dose is usedNone (blue light)
Good at showingVisible decay and discolourationInner structures: between teeth, roots, jawboneEarly surface decay, plaque, tartar
LimitsEarly changes are easily missedEarly surface changes are hard to seeCannot show deep decay or bone

※ Q-ray does not replace X-rays. We read it together with a visual exam and X-rays to reach a diagnosis.

GOOD TO KNOW

Before the exam

Good to know

  • The exam simply shines light and takes images, so it does not hurt.
  • We do not diagnose from this result alone; we read it together with other exams.
  • Deep decay and jawbone condition are checked separately with X-rays.
