ICON RESIN INFILTRATION

ICON Resin explained

A thin, runny resin is drawn into white spots or early decay on the tooth surface, making the spots fade without drilling.

  1. Soaks in, no drillingA regular filling removes the decayed part and fills it. ICON resin soaks into tiny gaps inside the enamel and sets there.
  2. Usually no anaestheticBecause the tooth is not drilled, most treatments are done without anaesthetic.
  3. Done in the chairNo impressions or lab work are needed; the treatment is carried out in the clinic.

We use the ICON resin infiltration system from DMG, Germany.

CHECK

Spots we consider it for

When it may suit you

  • White spots left after braces come off
  • White patches caused by too much fluoride and similar causes
  • Early decay still limited to the enamel
  • Early spots or discolouration on children's teeth

When another method may suit better

  • The whole tooth has darkened after a root canal or injuryThis is discolouration inside the tooth, so whitening or veneers are considered.
  • Decay has reached the dentinInfiltration alone cannot stop it, and cavity treatment is needed.
  • The enamel is pitted or chipped awayA resin filling or veneer may suit better.

※ How much a spot fades depends on its cause and depth. We explain what to expect after the examination.

COMPARE

How it differs from a regular filling

Regular resin filling

  • DrillingThe spot or decay is drilled away
  • AnaestheticOften needed
  • MethodThe drilled area is filled with material
  • MarginA boundary forms between material and tooth

ICON resin

  • DrillingNo drilling
  • AnaestheticUsually not needed
  • MethodSoaks into gaps in the enamel and sets
  • MarginSets inside the tooth, so no separate boundary forms

※ ICON is for spots and early decay limited to the enamel. It does not replace treatment for deep decay.

PROCESS

Treatment steps

1
Diagnosis

We check the size and depth of the spot with a Q-ray scan and a visual exam.

2
Protection

The tooth is isolated to keep saliva away and protect the gums.

3
Opening the surface

A special gel opens the surface of the spot so the resin can get in.

4
Drying and preview

Drying with alcohol shows in advance how much the spot is likely to fade.

5
Infiltration

The runny resin is applied and left to soak into the gaps.

6
Curing and polishing

A light sets the resin, and the surface is smoothed and polished.

WHY MEGAPLANT

Our approach at MEGAPLANT Seodaemun

A tooth that has been drilled cannot be restored to how it was, so we look at no-drill options first.

01

We check with Q-ray first

A Q-ray scan, which uses light, shows the extent of spots and early decay.

Q-ray Diagnosis

02

No-drill options first

If infiltration can handle it, we recommend it before any treatment that removes tooth.

Preservation first

03

Honest about limits

For discolouration that infiltration is unlikely to fade, we also explain options such as whitening or veneers.

No-prep Veneer

04

We keep checking

At regular check-ups we look at the treated area for staining and its condition.

CARE

After treatment

Aftercare

  • Right after treatment, avoid strongly coloured food and drinks such as coffee, tea and wine for a while.
  • You can eat and brush as usual.
  • The resin can stain over time, so we check it at regular check-ups and polish the surface if needed.
  • Deep spots may not fade fully in one go, so a resin filling may also be considered.

ICON Resin Consultation

We check the cause and depth of the spot and advise whether a no-drill approach is enough.
