TMD (TMJ disorder)

A disorder of the temporomandibular joint and muscles that causes pain or sounds when moving the jaw.

Symptoms include pain when opening the mouth or chewing, clicking sounds, and limited mouth opening. Causes include stress, teeth grinding, and malocclusion, and it is managed with a splint (occlusal stabilization appliance), medication, and correction of lifestyle habits.
